Hi to My Dear Family and Friends –
Today, in ‘normal days,’ people all over this country would have been Walking for Kids, honoring the families and their children who depend upon, and benefit from, our Ronald McDonald Houses across the U.S. and the world. Like so much else that’s changed around us, the walk this year is virtual. But what hasn’t changed is the need. While it’s hard to ask for donations during these days, I do this because we have families in our L.A. House who are quarantined there, like we are in our homes, but these families are not in their homes, and they are also dealing with a sick child on top of it all. And because we have our teams at the House who are still showing up (Ronald McDonald Houses have been deemed “Essential Services”), going above and beyond to support the families and kids, helping to provide a safe home away from home, helping to keep hope alive.
As you all know, my family stayed in a Ronald McDonald House when my nephew, Jake, suffered from a brain aneurysm 4 years ago. While we will never be the same after the loss of Jake, we are forever grateful for the special touch of that place during those days when we needed the open door, the meal and a bed, and the kindness of the people who surrounded us.
In Jake’s honor, and especially this month as we’ve been reminded that the spirit of human-kindness is the power that gets us through hard times, I would like to invite you to join my Jake19 team to raise funds for the L.A. Ronald McDonald House. This is the one time during the year when I reach out to my family and friends to help. Bret and I have started our Jake19 fundraising this year with a gift of $1,500. Please join us – matching our gift in part or total and/or opening your hearts to give whatever you are able to give. Our goal is to raise $5,000 … or more … doing our part to help in this one place during this time when so much is needed in so many places.
Thank you for your support! Sending hope and love. Kim and Bret
