Welcome to my personal Walk for Kids page!
I'm reaching out to you as I need your help.
As many of you know, I'm on the Board of Trustees of the Los Angeles Ronald McDonald House (I am now the Vice President of the Board and have volunteered yet again to be the Chair of the LA Walk). It's a wonderful organization that serves a great cause. I know many of you are actively invloved in non-profit organizations, and I tend to believe they all serve great causes. That said, there is something VERY special about the Ronald McDonald House Charities. The Los Angeles Ronald McDonald House is a "home-away from home" for families with seriously ill children. While the sick child is nearby at some of the world's best hospitals (many of them at Children's Hospital LA), his/her family is close by in our House with 74 other families going through a similar experience.
The support the House is able to provide the families with ill children is simply beyond amazing. Our House provides an integral part of the healing process, a place of wellness for the families, a place to rest, to make a meal, or share a conversation with another parent or sibling. The families are asked to pay $25 per night (versus an actual cost of $175). No family is ever turned away because they are unable to pay – approximately 71% of our families can't even afford to pay the $25 per night...
The House has two major annual fundraisers to support the mission – Mac Tonight, which is our annual Gala Event, and the Walk for Kids. The Walk for Kids is our biggest and most important fundraiser of the year; hence, when I was asked to Chair the Walk for the fourth year in a row, it was a very easy decision for me.
The Walk For Kids is for everybody. It is an easy 5k (3.1 miles) around Exposition Park on Sunday, April 7th at 9 a.m. (registration opens at 7 AM). It is a fun, carnival-like atmosphere and thousands of people will show up to demonstrate their support for the House. Parents will bring their kids, strollers, and family dogs. Some will participate in wheel chairs. Booths are set up with activities and refreshments. The Walk has music, entertainers, and Ronald McDonald himself has been known to show up. It's great!
I would love to have you join my Walk team, The Bryant Crew; it's easy to do, just click on the red Join Lena's Team button on the right. If you can't make it to the Walk but are interested in making a secure online donation to help me reach my fundraising goal, please click the red Donate Now button to the right of the page.
Thank you for your support! I hope to see you at the 2018 Walk for Kids!
