Welcome to My Walk for Kids Personal Page
Hi everybody! My name is Karina Fry and I have been attending Camp Ronald McDonald For Good Times for over five years, and recently became involved in the WOLP Teen Advisory Committee, which contributes to fundraising and promotional efforts.
When my brother was three years old, he was diagnosed with leukemia. Although my side of the story as a sibling is evidently less traumatic, it was hard being regularly separated from my family when I was young. At the time, the emotional stress as a family, and my brother as a patient, seemed to cloud over any potential ray of light that might have existed. But it turned out to always be there, its radiance and hope shining through right when we needed it. It was Camp.
Although I could speak for hours about Camp’s impact on my life and those around me, I will make it short and straight to the point. My cabin mate once described Camp as, “the feeling of biting into a smore, but over and over again.” Humorous and delicious, this analogy truly captures the magic and comfort of the Camp community. Everytime I am up the mountain, I am met with the gift to be authentically myself and celebrate the stories of those around me. It is a place of healing, connectivity, humanity, fun, and fosters the building of life-long connections and a discovery of oneself. With many layers, Camp is the most special treat, like an imperfectly perfect smore.
I am so incredibly grateful to be participating in the fundraising for Walk For Kids, to help give back to a community that has given me so much. Any donation would be greatly appreciated, to continue fostering the healing, smiles, and good times that Camp cultivates in their incredible community!
