Trojan for Camp!
Welcome to my personal Walk for Kids page! As a board member for Camp Ronald McDonald for Good Times, I have come to witness first hand the healing power of this camp catering to children with cancer and their families. Camp Ronald McDonald has touched and transformed so many lives over the years. I walk for every camper, but have felt especially moved recently by the Montijo Family. Below is their story and example of how your donation is making an impact.
Raylan Montijo is much like any other cute and charismatic 3 year old boy. He’s spunky, inquisitive, charming—and with the sweetest demeanor that would make anyone’s heart melt. What makes Raylan unlike most infants is the unique cancer he was diagnosed with just over a year ago. Raylan was diagnosed with Bi-Lateral Retinoblastoma (cancer in both of his eyes). For families like the Montijos, a weekend away during this trying time is a luxury that would otherwise be possible given the exorbitant expenses associated with cancer treatment coupled with both mom and dad having to quit their jobs to care for Raylan. Elizabeth shares, “Family Camp was amazing. It was the first time we were able to really talk about everything we were going through. Especially during the parent meeting, we all sat around and shared our story. It was then I realized we weren’t the only ones going through this—a weight was lifted.”
