Welcome to Shannon "Shay's" Fundraising Page
Welcome to my personal Walk for Kids page! I hope that you will join me in raising money for camp programs for children with cancer and their families.
For more than thirty years, Camp Ronald McDonald for Good Times has provided cost free camp programs for children with cancer and their families. It is our philosophy that love, care, attention, and above all else, friendship transforms lives and leads to healthy outcomes.
Hey Friends and supporters!
“Camp will always be home to me, and it will always hold a strong place in my heart.”
I've been so blessed to be able to volunteer as a Camp counselor at this truly incredible organization. These past three summers as a counselor have changed my life tremendously. I've met so many amazing kids, teens and their families who have all inspired me. Here's a few memorable moments. There are plenty more each week I'll change it up a bit:)
I was able to do multiple summer sessions this summer and it was definetley the best summer of my life so far. Seeing the smile on these campers faces and participating in activities they never thought they could do back at home was something truly amazing to see.On the last day of one summer session I was talking to an 18 year old camper named Lesley, She told me her mom would be so surprised at how much she did that week. I remember telling her I know she would be so proud , I'm really proud of you. Seeing how much she had grown and how much confidence she found in that one week from start to finish really touched my heart.
Family camps are also held during Fall and Spring, my first family camp I met a little boy named Jayce and his family. Jayce was 3 years old at the time and wasn't very social but his family really enjoyed their time at camp, they came back a second time After that and Jayce was a lot happier and even danced at the talent show with his sisters Aeryn and Monique. Seeing these kids and families having a blast and overcoming so much keeps me coming back to volunteer. There is honestly no place I'd rather be.
My perspective on life has changed for the better since my experience as a counselor. It’s motivated me to give these campers the best version of myself and help them grow and find the best version of themselves.
We know we can’t negate the impact of chemotherapy or reduce the pain that comes with treatment, but we feel that cancer should not take away the opportunity for a child to experience the fun, laughter and joy of life. Camp provides that opportunity and more! Offering children fighting cancer the chance to take a break from hospitals and find the opportunity to just be “ordinary kids”.
