Welcome to My Happy Place Page
It was summer of 2005. I was a new college grad, working at a local summer day camp for kids and twiddling my thumbs before my graduate program began in the fall. In those days, whenever I wasn't working, I spent much of my time volunteering, and someone finally said to me, “You know, you ought to volunteer at Camp Ronald McDonald for Good Times. You'd love it.” Of course I said YES (because volunteer fanatics have a difficult time saying no), but little did I know, those few words of encouragement would change my life. I came home from my first summer session so unbelievably exhausted from those crazy little nine-year-olds in Cabin 4, but my heart and body were filled to the very brim with love.
Almost 14 years later, I don’t know how, but Camp has managed to fill me up even more with love. New friendships, triumphant climbs up the Courage Course, first bull’s eye shots, courageous performances at the campfire talent show, infectious giggles of kids trying to wiggle an Oreo from their forehead to their mouth, the sight of kids (and counselors!) dancing their sillies out.... These are just a few reasons why camp has a very special place in my heart.
Think of it this way: You know how we all need eight hugs a day to boost our physical, mental and emotional health? At camp, you get at least 254 hugs a day, so just imagine the love!
Today I’m asking to you to join me in supporting a truly wonderful organization that brings joy into the lives of children and families who have been impacted by cancer. Your gift, big or small, directly help kids experience happy healing times with lifelong memories, in spite of the cancer and struggles they live with everyday down the mountain. Please help me give back to this fantastic place.
Plus, if you donate, you’ll get a super-duper surprise treat in the mail as a token of my appreciation and thanks. ;)
