Welcome to Team Sidney 2018 Walk for Kids page! Team Sidney was created in memory of Baby Sidney Irwin. Baby Sidney was born to Mark and Mary Iriwn on June 9, 2013. Baby Sidney was born with a heart defect called Transposition of the great arteries. Baby Sidney was flown to Kaiser hospital in Las Angles and then transferred across the street to Children's hospital where she was supposed to have heart surgery. The Los Angeles Ronald McDonald House accepted Mark and Mary into their house, which was a great blessing. The Ronald McDonald House made it possible for Mark, Mary and their 2-year-old daughter Brooklyn the opportunity to stay close to Baby Sidney. Eventually, Baby Sidney was able to have her surgery, due to other complications the surgery was postponed for a week or so. In great sadness Baby Sidney was not able to come off of her heart machines and gained her angel wings on July 3, 2013. Baby Sidney's father Mark, was a racer at Bakersfield Speedway and during this time the racing community came together as a racing family and provided support to Baby Sidney and her family. This racing family formed Team Sidney. I hope that you will join Team Sidney in raising money for seriously ill children and their families. For more than 40 years, Ronald McDonald House Charities of Southern California has been dedicated to creating a community where children and their families embrace life and healing with a sense of hope, enthusiasm, courage, and joy through the operation of Ronald McDonald Houses, Ronald McDonald Family Rooms, Camp Ronald McDonald for Good Times, a Community Grant Board and four scholarship programs. When you participate in the Walk for Kids, you are showing your support for families who are facing the fear and uncertainty of having a seriously ill child.
